About me
Alan Bowers is a music educator. Faculty recitals at California State University Northridge, Teachers College, Columbia University, and Simpson College attest to the breadth of his experience. Organizers of recent workshops he conducted in Alexander Technique for the pianists of Florida State University, for the voice department of SUNY Broome, for the cellists of University of Southern Mississippi, and the School of Music at University of Nevada Las Vegas continue to share how the Alexander Technique has contributed to their pedagogies. His work is informed by the developmental stages of singing in prehistory and in the history of vocal pedagogy. Noted author Cathleen Schine has written about her work with Alan, and professionals from other fields have added their voices, a sign painter, a chief investigator, a professional gardener, an insurance broker. Alan recalls the first time he offered to work with the principles of Alexander Technique in a voice lesson. Placing his hand on the neck of a certain Mr. Jordan, the student exclaimed, I'll never forget that. Nor will I Mr. Jordan. Alan counts the intersection of Alexander Technique and voice as the most vital synergy in which a human being can engage.
