About me
Beret Arcaya was born in 1942 in New York. Was accepted into the Juilliard School in 1956. In 1957, she began studying acting with Uta Hagen and began to work as a film actress. In 1968, she returned to singing. Using the method of Manuel Garcia (1804-1906). The self-discovery and freedom she experienced in this process set her on the creative path, which she is dedicated to.
She began teaching voice in 1971. Upon discovering the Technique, she began private lessons with Judy Liebowitz. In 1978, she joined the ACAT-New York teacher-training course. She was certified in 1981, was a board member of ACAT and a founding member of the American Society for the Alexander Technique
She has taught and performed throughout Europe. In 1996 she retrained completely for 10 years with Walter and Dilys Carrington. Beret is a member of APTAE, STAT, AmSAT Societies.
She has written “Understanding the Singing Voice,” Vol 1 and Vol 2, available at www.habitandchoice.com . This book is based upon the Vocal method of Manuel Garcia and incorporates the principles and teachings of FM Alexander. An album of her singing music from the 18th and 19th centuries is available on all streaming platforms worldwide.
