Yoga for Every Body!
LIMITED
Sunday June 28, 2026 7:00am - 7:50am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
This morning session will be a gentle yoga class that is adaptive and appropriate for all abilities, especially those who have never taken a class or have felt intimidated by “yoga”. Although I use many traditional poses the approach is from an AT perspecitive of allowing and unwinding not in the doing a pose. This means there is a lot of space to be with yourself in a very deep and meaningful way. Sometime my students and I laugh as we recognize our desire to wrestle our bodies into submission. But there is no need to wrestle and when we treat ourselves with kindness it often opens doors we didn’t think were possible.

The class that I developed during covid often began in semi-supine. Why not! It’s a wonderful place to start. Somewhere in all of my years of teaching I developed a sense of humor and a delight in playing so we will play with sublte transitions and weight shifts to encourage freedom and ease in our thinking and our movement. And although we are focused on ourselves we are also being reminded to be a part of the whole bringing compassion to ourselves and then out to others.

Presence in Thought & Action at Any Speed: An Exploration of Pace, Timing, and Movement
LIMITED
Sunday June 28, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
We put thought to action every day, creating the movements and expressions that occupy our waking world, and at the intersection between thought and action lies agency. Yet our lives require navigating many different paces in daily activity, artistic performance, and the practice of our craft. How do we direct ourselves through the tempos of our actions? Do you think of speed as big or small, as “how much” or “how soon”? What happens when we need to change speed in the moment?

This workshop dives into how we use the Alexander Technique to maintain presence across the spectrum of speeds. Together, we’ll clarify what we mean by pace and speed, discuss the cultural assumptions we inherit about time, and explore how those ideas shape the way we direct ourselves. Experiential group activities will explore the intersection of thought and action, and what it is like to navigate tempo in real time. We will also examine where our attention sits in the moment (front, middle, or back of an action) and how that choice affects pacing, urgency, and coordination. Drawing on over 20 years of professional drumming experience, Bryan will also give an inside look at how the Alexander Technique helps drummers navigate four-way coordination (where the four limbs may move at different speeds within the same musical tempo), and how anyone can use multi-limb awareness to maintain flow within the whole.

Join for an educational, exploratory, and interactive session toward having choice at any speed.

Activities can be done seated and will be self-selecting. Participation in activities is not required for attendance, and individualized hands-on practice will not be included. The workshop is designed to be accessible to the general public and practitioners, and to participants with diverse needs and abilities.

Student-Centered Teaching and Learning: Meeting the Moment in the Teaching Studio
LIMITED
Sunday June 28, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
As the Alexander Technique enters broader conversations about performance—on stage, in movement practice, at work, and in daily life—the way we teach becomes inseparable from what we teach. If performance is about meeting the moments of heightened awareness, then our pedagogy must cultivate that capacity in real time.
This workshop explores a student-centered recognition approach to Alexander Technique teaching through placing the student’s process as the focus of the learning. We will explore the structure of the lesson, content, and language during an AT lesson.
Designed for teachers at all stages, this session invites participants to reimagine the teaching studio as a training ground for performing well in life—not through instruction alone, but through collaborative inquiry.
Come ready to explore how meeting the moment in teaching prepares our students to meet the moments of their lives.

The Elephant In The Room: Addressing Emotional and Psychological Responses in Alexander Technique Teaching - Presented by CATPA
LIMITED
Sunday June 28, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
The Committee for Alexander Technique in the Performing Arts (CATPA) will facilitate a structured conversation for Alexander Technique teachers and trainees exploring how we meet the moment when a student presents an emotional or psychological response during a lesson.

In our work with actors, dancers, and musicians, such moments are not uncommon. Because Alexander Technique invites increased awareness of habitual neuromuscular coordination and nervous system patterns, shifts in use can sometimes coincide with unexpected emotional responses. Yet explicit conversation about how to navigate these moments—ethically, skillfully, and within scope of our practice remains somewhat limited and sometimes even avoided.

As a committee, we have found it helpful to share personal approaches and resources when these situations arise, learning from and inspiring each other. Drawing on our collective experience, we seek to open a dialogue about trauma-informed and consent-forward practices that support student safety while staying within the scope of what our teaching is. As our cultural landscape shifts and students arrive with increasingly complex lived experiences, this conversation feels both timely and useful.

Tuning for Peak Performance
LIMITED
Sunday June 28, 2026 10:00am - 11:30am EDT
Limited Capacity seats available
In this workshop we will be exploring how the Technique enables optimal organization for movement and performance. There are many ways to define the Technique, but one very important one is as a means whereby to enable the most efficient and effective movement possible. While we are exploring this organization we will experience the coordination of a long spine with our suspension system, breath, balance, and environment and tool handling. We will also notice how Alexander’s directions describe this integration. In addition we will experience how the same organization for peak performance is close to the optimal quality of hands on teacher communication.

Jessica’s legacy in establishing the Alexander program at the Yale’s School of Drama over 26 years and her extensive work with professional performers is exemplified in Art of Breathing’s explorations of sound, movement, addressing performance anxiety, and her trademark “Breathing Costume” work for actors. Rebecca, Eleanor, and Rachel each bring considerable experience working with performers at all levels. All teachers and trainees are welcome to join us for this experiential workshop.

How our workshop will be accessible:
For participants with limited mobility we will offer seated modification for floor activities, such as the lie-down.
